What Are British Standards (BS EN) — Overview for Engineers & Contractors in 2026

BSI Group — The UK National Standards Body Since 1901

BSI (British Standards Institution) | Founded 1901 | 37,000+ Standards | 170+ Countries | Member of ISO & CEN

BS vs BS EN vs BS EN ISO:A plain “BS” prefix is a purely British standard. “BS EN” means it is a European Norm (EN) adopted by BSI — the most common type in construction today. “BS EN ISO” indicates a standard adopted from ISO into both European and British systems simultaneously. After Brexit (2021), the UK retained all BS EN standards and continues to update them independently as “BS EN” without change to numbering.

Standard Numbering System:Each standard has a prefix, a number, and the year of last revision — e.g.,BS EN 206:2013+A2:2021means the 2021 amendment (A2) to the 2013 edition. Always cite the full designation including amendment year in specifications. The “+A2:2021” portion can change material limits, exposure classes, or testing requirements significantly from the base edition.

Eurocodes and Construction:Structural design now uses the Eurocode series (BS EN 1990–1999). Eurocode 2 (BS EN 1992) governs reinforced and prestressed concrete; Eurocode 3 (BS EN 1993) covers structural steel. These replaced BS 8110 (RC) and BS 5950 (steel) which are now withdrawn but still referenced in Pakistan for existing structure assessments and older contract documents.

Pakistan Context 2026:BS standards remain the primary reference for concrete, rebar, cement, and structural steel in Pakistan. The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) formally accepts BS EN standards. Major contractors (FWO, Descon, NLC) and housing societies (DHA, Bahria) specify BS standards in procurement. PSQCA Pakistan Standards are largely adapted from BS EN originals. 2026 Key Updates:BS EN 206:2013+A2:2021 updated durability exposure classes and recycled aggregate provisions. BS EN 197-1:2011+A1:2023 introduced CEM VI low-carbon cement. BS 8500-1:2023 updated sulfate limits. BS EN 12390-3:2019 revised loading rate requirements. Always verify the current edition on theBSI Knowledge databasebefore specifying.

BS EN vs ASTM Standards Equivalence Table — Cross-Reference Guide for Pakistan Engineers 2026

Side-by-side comparison of British Standards and ASTM equivalents for concrete, rebar, steel, and testing — for engineers working across both systems in Pakistan. For related background, see ASTM Standards.

  • Parameter: Concrete Specification; BS EN Standard: BS EN 206 + BS 8500; ASTM Equivalent: ACI 301 + ACI 318; Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS EN uses Exposure Classes (XC, XD, XS) to drive W/C and cement content. ACI uses durability exposure categories (W0–W2, S0–S3, C0–C2). Both achieve equivalent durability outcomes but via different classification frameworks.
  • Parameter: Concrete Strength Test; BS EN Standard: BS EN 12390-3 (150 mm cube); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM C39 (150×300 mm cylinder); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: Cube fcu ≈ 1.25 x cylinder f’c for the same concrete. Pakistan labs use cubes; ASTM uses cylinders. Never mix results without the 1.25 conversion factor — this is the single most common error when Pakistan engineers work across both systems.
  • Parameter: Concrete Strength Class; BS EN Standard: C25/30, C30/37, C35/45 (cylinder / cube); ASTM Equivalent: f’c = 25, 30, 35 MPa (cylinder only); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS EN C30/37 means cylinder fck = 30 MPa (for Eurocode 2 design) and cube fcu = 37 MPa (for BS EN 12390-3 QC testing). ASTM f’c = 30 MPa is cylinder-only. Specifying “C30 concrete” without specifying the system is ambiguous on Pakistan projects.
  • Parameter: Slump Test; BS EN Standard: BS EN 12350-2; ASTM Equivalent: ASTM C143; Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: Near-identical procedure. Same Abrams cone geometry (300 mm tall) and working method. Results are directly comparable. BS EN defines slump classes S1–S5; ASTM reports the raw mm value only. Either standard is acceptable for Pakistan site QC.
  • Parameter: Portland Cement Types; BS EN Standard: BS EN 197-1 (CEM I, II, III, IV, V); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM C150 (Type I, II, III, IV, V); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: CEM I ≈ ASTM Type I (both pure Portland). CEM III/A (36–65% GGBS) ≈ ASTM C595 Type IS. CEM II/B-V (fly ash) ≈ ASTM C595 Type IP. Different clinker content thresholds and activity index test methods apply — cannot directly substitute without checking specific limits.
  • Parameter: Fly Ash; BS EN Standard: BS EN 450-1 (Category A, B, C); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM C618 (Class F, Class C); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS EN 450 Category A ≈ ASTM Class F (both low-calcium fly ash). Different activity index methods: BS EN uses 28-day mortar strength vs reference; ASTM uses Strength Activity Index (SAI) at 28 days. Results are broadly comparable but not directly interchangeable on a compliance certificate.
  • Parameter: Deformed Reinforcing Bar; BS EN Standard: BS 4449 B500B (Fy ≥ 500 MPa); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM A615 Grade 60 (Fy ≥ 414 MPa); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS 4449 B500B has 21% higher minimum yield strength than A615 Grade 60. Do NOT interchange without structural engineer written approval — member sizing and connection design change. B500B also has a capped maximum yield (≤ 650 MPa) which A615 Grade 60 does not require.
  • Parameter: Seismic-Grade Rebar; BS EN Standard: BS 4449 B500C (Fu/Fy ≥ 1.15, Agt ≥ 7.5%); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM A706 Grade 60 (Fu/Fy ≥ 1.25, Agt ≥ 9%); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: A706 Grade 60 requires higher Fu/Fy ratio (1.25 vs 1.15) but both are recognised seismic grades. A706 has slightly better ductility demand per ACI 318-19. B500C meets Eurocode 8 (seismic) and BCP 2021 ductility requirements for special structural systems in Pakistan.
  • Parameter: Structural Steel — Main Grade; BS EN Standard: BS EN 10025-2 S355J2; ASTM Equivalent: ASTM A572 Grade 50; Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: S355 (Fy ≥ 355 MPa) vs A572 Gr.50 (Fy ≥ 345 MPa) — similar strength. S355J2 sub-grade guarantees Charpy impact ≥ 27 J at −20°C; A572 Grade 50 has no standard impact requirement unless specifically invoked. S355J2 is safer for dynamic-loaded and cold-temperature structures.
  • Parameter: Welding Procedure Qualification; BS EN Standard: BS EN ISO 15614-1 (WPQR always required); ASTM Equivalent: AWS D1.1 (Prequalified or Qualified WPS); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: AWS D1.1 has a prequalified WPS route requiring no testing for common joint and material combinations. BS EN ISO 15614-1 always requires a physical test joint. AWS D1.1 is standard in Gulf and US-funded projects; BS EN governs UK and most Pakistan BS-specified projects — never mix the two on the same contract without explicit approval.
  • Parameter: Aggregate for Concrete; BS EN Standard: BS EN 12620 (CE Marked; LA, FI categories declared); ASTM Equivalent: ASTM C33 (fixed gradation tables, % fines limits); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS EN 12620 uses declared performance categories with CE marking; ASTM C33 uses fixed compliance limits. Both require sieve analysis, abrasion testing, and deleterious substance limits. BS EN requires an ongoing Factory Production Control (FPC) system; ASTM requires periodic test certificates only.
  • Parameter: Concrete Execution; BS EN Standard: BS EN 13670 (single comprehensive document); ASTM Equivalent: ACI 301 + ACI 308 (separate specifications); Key Difference — Important for Pakistan Practice: BS EN 13670 covers formwork, reinforcement, concrete placing, curing, and tolerances in one document. ACI 301 (concrete specifications) and ACI 308R (curing guide) are separate. BS EN 13670 is more specific on striking times, maturity method, and surface finish classes. Both are accepted by PEC for Pakistan projects.

* Equivalences are guidance approximations only. Always obtain written confirmation from the project Structural Engineer before substituting one standard system for another in contractual or structural compliance applications. Design values, partial factors, and test method results may differ even when concrete mixes are otherwise identical.

BS EN Standard Series for Construction — What Each Series Covers in 2026

Concrete Specification & Conformity

The foundation of BS concrete quality control. BS EN 206 defines strength classes, exposure classes, constituent material limits, and conformity criteria. BS 8500 is the UK companion that translates these into Designated Concrete mixes (RC30/37, ST4 etc.) for common applications — simplifying specification on standard projects while maintaining full BS EN 206 compliance. Together they replaced the historic BS 5328 withdrawn in 2003, which is still seen in some older Pakistan contract documents.

Cement Types & Supplementary Cementitious Materials

BS EN 197-1 defines 27 cement products across 5 types (CEM I–V). The 2023 amendment introduced CEM VI — a low-clinker cement with up to 50% CO2 reduction. Companion standards BS EN 450 (fly ash), BS EN 15167 (GGBS), and BS EN 13263 (silica fume) define SCM performance requirements for partial cement replacement. All are normative references within BS EN 206 — specifying BS EN 206 concrete implicitly requires these to be met.

Fresh & Hardened Concrete Testing (12 + 13 Parts)

BS EN 12350 (12 parts) covers all fresh concrete tests: slump, flow, air content, temperature, density, Vebe, compaction factor, and SCC-specific tests. BS EN 12390 (13 parts) covers all hardened concrete tests: cube and cylinder making, compressive strength, splitting tensile, flexural, density, carbonation depth, and durability. Both series are mandatory normative references within BS EN 206 for production control and conformity testing.

Reinforcing Steel & Bar Bending Schedules

BS 4449 defines deformed bar material: B500A, B500B (standard), and B500C (seismic) — all with 500 MPa characteristic yield strength. BS 8666 defines the 99 standard shape codes used on all bar bending schedules submitted by detailing engineers and rebar fabricators in Pakistan. BS EN 10080 is the parent European framework from which BS 4449 is derived. All three standards work together in the complete design-to-fabrication chain for reinforced concrete.

Hot-Rolled Structural Steel Products

A six-part series covering: Part 1 (general conditions), Part 2 (non-alloy S235–S450 — most common in Pakistan), Part 3 (normalized fine grain S275N–S460N), Part 4 (TMCP fine grain S275M–S460M — best weldability), Part 5 (weathering steel), Part 6 (high-yield quenched and tempered S460Q–S960Q — used in heavy fabrication). S355J2 per Part 2 is the dominant grade for structural buildings and bridges in Pakistan in 2026.

Structural Design Codes — The Complete Eurocode System

Ten Eurocodes govern all structural design in Europe and increasingly worldwide. For construction engineers: EC0 (BS EN 1990 — basis of design), EC1 (BS EN 1991 — actions and loads), EC2 (BS EN 1992 — concrete structures), EC3 (BS EN 1993 — steel structures), EC4 (BS EN 1994 — composite), EC6 (BS EN 1996 — masonry), EC7 (BS EN 1997 — geotechnical), EC8 (BS EN 1998 — seismic). EC8 is increasingly adopted in Pakistan’s BCP 2021 for seismic design of critical structures. SeeEC JRC Portal.

British Standards in Pakistan Construction — Practical Application Guide 2026

How BS EN standards apply across Pakistani structural engineering, housing, infrastructure, and quality control requirements in 2026.

PEC Acceptance of BS EN Standards in Pakistan

The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) formally accepts BS EN standards as equivalent alternatives to ASTM and ISO standards. Structural drawings stamped by a PEC-registered Structural Engineer (SE) must cite the specific BS standard and edition year. For projects funded by World Bank or ADB, BS EN standards are equally acceptable alongside ASTM specifications. Visitpec.org.pkfor the approved codes list updated annually.

PSQCA Pakistan Standards — BS EN Adaptation 2026

PSQCA has formally adopted or adapted many BS EN standards as Pakistan Standards (PS). Key correspondences:

  • PS 232 equivalent to BS EN 197-1 (Portland Cement)
  • PS 3432 equivalent to BS 4449 (Deformed Reinforcing Bars)

CPEC Projects — Dual Standard Challenge 2026

CPEC projects present a unique dual-standard issue: Chinese contractors reference GB standards (Chinese national standards), while Pakistani regulatory framework requires BS EN or ASTM compliance. As of 2026, most CPEC projects include a Standards Equivalence Schedule specifying which standard governs in conflict. BS EN standards take precedence for structural concrete and steel in projects supervised by Pakistani authorities. Reference:pc.gov.pk — Planning Commission.

Pakistan summers regularly exceed 40°C ambient in Karachi, Multan, and Jacobabad. BS EN 13670 and CEN/TR 15177 guidance applies:

  • Max concrete temperature at placement: 35°C
  • Chilled water or ice as mix water (BS EN 1008 compliant)
  • Night-time concreting for large foundation and slab pours
  • Type B retarding admixture per BS EN 934-2
  • White-pigmented curing compound (BS EN 13670 Cl. 8.5)
  • Wet hessian + polythene sheet curing for exposed slabs

Mill Certificate Requirements for Rebar and Steel in Pakistan

For BS EN governed projects, structural steel and rebar deliveries require EN 10204 inspection documents:

  • Type 2.1:Declaration of conformity — no test data included
  • Type 2.2:Test report — batch testing, not heat-specific
  • Type 3.1:Mill certificate — heat-specific test data traceable to individual coil or plate (minimum requirement for all structural steel and B500B/B500C rebar)
  • Type 3.2:Witnessed certificate — required for nuclear, offshore, and critical bridge elements

Expert Tips for BS EN Standards Compliance in Concrete & Steel Construction — 2026

Always Include the Amendment Year in Every Document

Write “BS EN 206:2013+A2:2021” not just “BS EN 206” in specifications, QC plans, and contracts. The A2:2021 amendment changed exposure class sulfate limits and introduced recycled aggregate provisions absent from the 2013 edition. In contract disputes, the edition year determines which requirements govern — citing only the base standard number creates legal ambiguity.

Never Convert Cube and Cylinder Strength Without the Factor

BS EN 12390-3 cube strength (fcu) and ASTM C39 cylinder strength (f’c) give different values for the same concrete. Cube fcu ≈ 1.25 x cylinder f’c. Specifying C30/37 in BS EN means 37 MPa cube — which is ~30 MPa cylinder. Mixing these without the conversion factor causes 20% structural under- or over-design. Confirm which test your lab uses on day one of every project.

Specify BS 4449 Grade by Letter Code — Not Just “500”

B500A, B500B, and B500C all have Fy = 500 MPa but drastically different ductility. B500C (Agt ≥ 7.5%; Fu/Fy ≥ 1.15) is mandatory for seismic structures per BCP 2021. Many Pakistan suppliers deliver B500B bars when B500C is specified — check the grade letter and ductility class on the mill test certificate, not just the yield value.

Require EN 10204-3.1 Mill Certificates for All Structural Steel

An EN 10204-3.1 certificate is heat-specific — results are traceable to the exact coil or plate delivered. Type 2.2 certificates (generic test reports) apply to any batch, not necessarily the steel you received. For structural columns, beams, and bridge plates in Pakistan, insist on 3.1 certificates and verify that the heat number on the certificate matches the delivery note before accepting any steel on site.

Establish the Exposure Class Before Specifying Concrete

The exposure class determines the minimum W/C ratio, cement content, and strength class — all must be satisfied simultaneously. A common Pakistan error: specifying C30/37 for a coastal Karachi structure without stating XS3 class, which requires C35/45. The exposure class requirement always governs over a plain strength specification. Use BS 8500-1:2023 Table A.3 to select the correct designated mix for your specific exposure condition.

Commission BS EN 12812 Class B Falsework Estimates

For slabs above 4 m slab height, transfer plates, or heavy table-form systems, BS EN 12812 Class B requires full structural estimates by a Temporary Works Designer (TWD). Pakistan sites frequently use informal propping — falsework collapses cause multiple fatalities annually. A documented TWD estimate, method statement, and permit-to-load sign-off must be completed before every critical concrete pour in multi-storey construction.

Use PNAC-Accredited Labs for All BS EN 12390 Cube Tests

Insist that concrete testing labs hold PNAC (Pakistan National Accreditation Council) accreditation specifically for BS EN 12390-3. Loading rate per BS EN 12390-3 is 0.6 ± 0.2 MPa/s — non-compliance (testing too fast) overestimates cube strength by 5–15%. Verify lab testing machine calibration records (BS EN ISO 7500-1: recalibrate annually). PNAC accreditation directory is atpnac.org.pk.

Understand That BS EN 206 Compliance Requires 40+ Companion Standards

When you specify “concrete to BS EN 206:2013+A2:2021,” you implicitly invoke all 40+ normative referenced standards simultaneously. If your aggregate supplier has not tested to BS EN 12620, or your cement is not BS EN 197-1 certified, the concrete does not comply with BS EN 206 regardless of satisfactory cube results. Check the full conformity chain from constituent materials upward — not just the cube test certificate.

Key Standards Bodies for BS EN Construction Standards — Authorities & Resources 2026

Official organizations that publish, maintain, and enforce British Standards and Eurocodes relevant to Pakistan and UK construction practice in 2026.

BSI Group — British Standards Institution

Publisher of all BS and BS EN standards. Founded 1901; world’s oldest national standards body. BSI Knowledge portal provides access to all current standards, amendments, and withdrawn documents. After Brexit, BSI maintains BS EN standards independently, publishing identical text to CEN-adopted EN standards. Over 37,000 active standards across all sectors including construction.

CEN — European Committee for Standardization

Publishes European Norms (EN) adopted by all EU members as BS EN. Manages the Eurocode programme (EN 1990–1999). CEN technical committees (TC 104 for concrete, TC 135 for anchors) are the drafting bodies for all BS EN construction standards. CEN work programme and published EN standards are freely searchable at the CEN/CENELEC website.

ISO — International Organization for Standardization

BS EN ISO standards (BS EN ISO 9606-1 for welder qualification; BS EN ISO 15614-1 for WPS qualification) originate from ISO. ISO 17025 governs laboratory accreditation for all concrete and steel testing labs in Pakistan (PNAC). ISO 9001 quality management underpins the production control requirements of BS EN 206.

PSQCA — Pakistan Standards & Quality Control Authority

Publishes Pakistan Standards (PS) adopted from BS EN and ISO originals. Administers the mandatory Pakistan Quality Mark (PQM) for cement and reinforcing steel sold in Pakistan. As of 2026, PSQCA has published 23,000+ national standards. PSQCA mark on cement and rebar bags is mandatory by law — insist on it for every delivery on any Pakistan construction project.

PEC — Pakistan Engineering Council

Regulates all engineering practice in Pakistan. Mandates compliance with approved international standards including BS EN series. PEC-registered Structural Engineers (SE) must certify that designs comply with approved codes. Maintains the updated list of acceptable design codes (Eurocodes, BS, ASTM, ACI) for different project types. Essential reference for any dispute over which standard governs in Pakistan.

PNAC — Pakistan National Accreditation Council

Accredits testing and calibration laboratories in Pakistan against ISO/IEC 17025. PNAC accreditation for BS EN 12390 (cube testing) and BS EN 12504 (in-situ testing) is required for test results to be accepted by government clients (NHA, WAPDA, housing authorities, and World Bank funded projects). PNAC laboratory directory is publicly available at the PNAC portal.

BS Standards & Structural Engineering Glossary — Key Terms Defined 2026

Characteristic Strength (fck / fcu)

The concrete compressive strength below which no more than 5% of test results are expected to fall. fck = characteristic cylinder strength (used in Eurocode 2 design). fcu = characteristic cube strength (used for BS EN 12390-3 QC testing in Pakistan). Example: C30/37 means fck = 30 MPa (cylinder) AND fcu = 37 MPa (cube). Both values apply to the same concrete mix — they are not interchangeable.

Exposure Class (BS EN 206)

A classification describing the chemical and physical environment to which concrete will be exposed throughout its design life. Classes: X0 (no risk), XC1–XC4 (carbonation-induced corrosion), XD1–XD3 (chloride not from seawater), XS1–XS3 (seawater chloride), XF1–XF4 (freeze-thaw attack), XA1–XA3 (chemical attack). Governs the minimum W/C ratio, cement content, and concrete strength class — all must be met simultaneously.

W/C Ratio (Water-to-Cement Ratio)

The ratio of free water mass to total cementitious material mass in a concrete mix. Controls both compressive strength and durability. BS EN 206 limits W/C by exposure class: 0.65 (XC1) down to 0.40 (XD3 and XS3). Lower W/C = higher strength and lower permeability. Must be controlled at the ready-mix plant — adding water on site to improve workability is a serious quality violation.

CEM I / CEM III / CEM V

Cement types per BS EN 197-1. CEM I = pure Portland cement (at least 95% clinker). CEM III/A = Portland-blastfurnace with 36–65% GGBS — lower heat, better sulfate resistance. CEM III/B = 66–80% GGBS — very low heat, high durability, used for mass concrete and marine structures. CEM V = composite cement with fly ash and GGBS — used for sustainability targets. CEM I 42.5N is most common in Pakistan.

B500B — BS 4449 Grade

Deformed reinforcing steel with characteristic yield strength ReH at least 500 MPa, maximum yield at most 650 MPa, tensile-to-yield ratio Rm/Re at least 1.08, and uniform elongation Agt at least 5.0%. The standard grade for general reinforced concrete construction in Pakistan. The “B” prefix = weldable; “500” = yield in MPa; “B” suffix = ductility class B (intermediate). Widely produced by Amreli Steels, Ittefaq Steel, and NAVEENA.

B500C — Seismic-Grade Rebar (BS 4449)

Enhanced-ductility grade with Fu/Fy at least 1.15 and at most 1.35, and Agt at least 7.5%. The “C” suffix indicates Class C — the highest ductility class in BS 4449. Mandatory for special moment frames, special structural walls, and boundary elements in seismically active zones per BCP 2021 and Eurocode 8. The higher and capped yield range ensures predictable ductile behaviour during earthquake loading.

S355J2 — Structural Steel Grade

Hot-rolled structural steel per BS EN 10025-2 with minimum yield strength 355 MPa (for thickness up to 16 mm, reducing for thicker plates). J2 sub-grade guarantees Charpy impact energy at least 27 J at −20°C — ensuring resistance to brittle fracture in dynamic loading and cold weather. The dominant structural steel grade for buildings and bridges in Pakistan. Equivalent to old BS 5950 “Grade 50” and approximately ASTM A572 Grade 50.

Eurocode (BS EN 1990–1999)

A series of ten European structural design codes adopted as BS EN in the UK and accepted by PEC in Pakistan. Key codes: EC0 (basis of design), EC1 (actions and loads), EC2 (concrete), EC3 (steel), EC4 (composite), EC6 (masonry), EC7 (geotechnical), EC8 (seismic), EC9 (aluminium). Each is used alongside National Annexes that specify country-specific parameters. EC8 (seismic) is increasingly referenced in Pakistan’s BCP 2021 for earthquake design of critical structures.

Designated Mix (BS 8500)

A concrete mix defined by a single name (e.g., RC30/37, ST4) that pre-packages strength class, exposure class compliance, cement combination type, minimum cement content, and maximum W/C ratio. Simplifies specification for common building applications. RC30/37 = reinforced concrete, C30/37 strength class, suitable for moderate exposure (XC3/XC4). Increasingly used by Pakistan engineers familiar with the BS 8500 system over traditional prescriptive mix specification.

Normative Reference

A standard cited in another standard’s normative references section — meaning compliance with the referenced standard is mandatory for full compliance with the citing standard. Distinct from informative references which are guidance only. BS EN 206 has over 40 normative references including BS EN 197-1, BS EN 12620, and the BS EN 12350/12390 series. All must be complied with for a project to formally claim BS EN 206 conformity.

EN 10204-3.1 Mill Certificate

An inspection document issued by a steel manufacturer certifying the chemical and mechanical properties of a specific heat or production lot. Type 3.1 means: tested to the specified standard, results are traceable to the specific heat number, and signed by the manufacturer’s own inspection representative. Minimum requirement for all structural steel and B500B/B500C rebar on BS EN-governed projects in Pakistan. Type 3.2 adds independent third-party witness — required for nuclear and critical bridge structures.

WPQR — Welding Procedure Qualification Record

A documented record of the testing performed to qualify a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) per BS EN ISO 15614-1. Includes test joint details, welding parameters, and results of all destructive testing (tensile, bend, Charpy impact, macrosection, hardness). A valid WPQR must exist for every WPS used on structural steel works. Without a WPQR, the WPS is unqualified and the weld is non-compliant with BS EN standards regardless of its visual appearance.
